FOUNTAIN SQUARE MUSIC FESTIVAL. (2016)
CREATIVE DIRECTION, DESIGN, LOGO & TYPOGRAPHY, EXPERIENCE DESIGN.
ABSORB. was thrilled to be commissioned to steward creative, identity, and experiential growth of the Fountain Square Music Festival in Indianapolis in 2016. With an artist lineup that featured iconic and influential acts like Thurston Moore, Andrew WK, Kishi Bashi, Andrew Belle, Reptar, and more, the festival's identity had to be meticulously curated to reflect the character and eclecticism of both the event and it's host city, while still bringing a fresh, modern perspective to grow it into a new phase of artistic energy. Thus, we designed branding elements revolving around a vibrant, colorful structure called THE NUCLEUS, representing the festival's continuing importance as a hub of creativity and musical diversity.
Again expounding on our unique methods of bringing organically photographed textures into a digital design world, we created THE NUCLEUS by shooting photos of a perfect ferrofluid (magnetized liquid) orb, then colored and texturized using an additional series of custom textural photographs.
Further, the festival also featured a physical, circular LED experience art installation of THE NUCLEUS residing in the center of the festival.
